Memoir as Performance: Making REAL Personal Performance Panel Discussion

Panellists: Tiny Fest 2023 artists Kate Bartlett, Jacob Dombroski, and Sally Stockwell.

Moderator: Vana Manasiadis

Autobiographical performance can act as a site of resistance and intervention, whilst uncovering the political potentials and limits that accompany the use of the personal in performance.

What is the relationship between past and present in performance, given that the performing body is tangibly present in the here and now? What is the relationship between performance and authenticity? This panel will seek to explore the personal, raising and pursuing provocative questions around issues of ‘truth’, ‘identity’, personal history and political agency, confession, voyeurism, and ethics.

Join moderator Vana Manasiadis as she discusses these questions with three Tiny Fest artists all who deploy autobiographical narratives to foreground the constructedness of both art and life, the public stakes in each, and the possibility for alternatives.
