You are invited to join the local musicians of Addington Brass as they perform entertainment music on one of Ōtautahi’s iconic buses.
Jack Banks, in collaboration with the Addington Brass Band, invites you aboard Band on the Bus—a rare live music experience that transforms one of Ōtautahi’s iconic buses into a rolling concert hall.
Join local volunteer musicians, from seasoned players to emerging performers, as they fill the journey with brass music, community spirit, and unexpected moments of connection. Drawing on a rich history that stretches from Christchurch’s railway workforce to performances on the city’s tramline, Addington Brass continues its tradition of bringing music into public life in surprising ways.
Supported by the community and committed to accessible music education across the region, this is a unique opportunity to experience live brass music where the city itself becomes part of the performance.
About
Ōtautahi’s Addington Brass Band is an ever-growing local community pillar. Established in 1883 from volunteers of the Addington Railway Workshops, the band now constitutes a learner band, an intermediary band, and the main Addington Brass Band.
We perform across genre and format, from our collaborative Knox Church ‘Bras and Brass’ concert to punting down the Ōtākaro (Avon) river. As with many bands in Aotearoa, we compete annually in the National Brass Band Championships, where we comfortably sit in the ‘B’ Grade.
At the 2025 NZBB Championships, Addington claimed the Bob Gillie Memorial Trophy for Most Entertaining Band (for the second year running), as well as first-equal for Most Outstanding ‘B’ Grade Marching Band.
