Cryptids Club
Cryptid Crybz
Cryptids Club brought to Tiny Fest 2024 what Mothman and Bigfoot bring to the land of the “normies” – a world of wonder and curiosity with undertones of weird and magic.
The “Cryptid Crybz” is an interactive installation and pocket dimension that holds space specifically catered to Takatāpui youth. This ambient low-stimulation space, accessible via portal (a skux front-door re-vamp), taking visitors on adventure they have definitely never dreamed of having. Time to yank the human guise and return to your true form. You have found your Iwi.
Tikanga of the Cryptid Cryb: To interact with the space, human skins are forbidden. Masks were provided in community wardrobe. A space dedicated to Takatāpui prioritizing the safety of our queer tangata.

About
“Cryptids Club” was created by two multi-media creatives (Maia Wood & Lyss Cave) who have essentially only been collaborating on projects since they first met two years ago. The duo founded and created the first issue of the “Utu Ā Matimati” Takatāpui art magazine in 2022 and have since been pioneering what it means to provide “de-colonial art spaces” for Takatāpui youth. Their recent works consist of Clothing alteration/world building workshops for indigenous youth all around the motu.
